Hands training on Grip Master

Made by climbers, for climbers.

I built it myself because I didn’t want to carry a ton of gear on holiday. So I made this and took it with me, and I kept training even in regular gyms.

Six steps.

  1. 1
Grip Master as it arrives: one compact block with the black band

    It arrives like this

Grip Master comes packed in one compact block, held together by the band. Slide the band off to open it.

  2. 2
All Grip Master parts laid out: two holds, two plates, the connector and the cords

    Lay it all out

Open the kit and lay out every part: the two holds, the two plates, the connector and the two cords.

  3. 3
Threading the cord through a hold and pulling the knot tight

    Thread and tie the cords

Pass a cord through the slots of one hold, tie it and pull the knots tight. Do the same with the second hold.

  4. 4
Clipping the cord loops into the carabiner

    Clip the carabiner

Clip the cord loops of both holds into the carabiner. That’s the point you hang it from, or where you add a weight.

  5. 5
Inserting a plate into the hold to make the edge smaller

    Set the edge depth

The bare edge is 25 mm. Slot in one plate for 20 mm, two plates for 15 mm.

  6. 6
Sliding the blue connector into the hold

    Add the connector

Slide the connector into the holds to join them into a single hangboard. Leave it out to train each hand on its own.

frequently asked questions

Where can I buy it?

Grip Master is sold on eBay, so payment and buyer protection go through eBay. Go to the listing ↗

How can I use it?

  • hangboard: take the two holds apart, tie each cord to a bar, a tree or a door frame and hang with one hand on each hold.
  • pinch: hold one piece in your hand and squeeze it between your thumb and fingers.
  • weight lift: tie a weight to the cord below the hold, grab the edge and lift it.

Why is the inside textured?

The inside of the hold, where your fingers go, is textured to improve the grip, so your fingers don’t slip even when you get tired.

What are the plates for?

They change the depth of the edge: without plates it’s 25 mm, add one plate for 20 mm, two plates for 15 mm. Smaller edges are harder.

Which edge should I start with?

Start with the deepest edge (25 mm) and a light load, then make it harder little by little. Always warm up first.

Is it good for beginners?

Yes, it works for beginners too, and that’s exactly why I sell it: it helps you improve really fast, so you train smart instead of just climbing more.

What is it made of?

It’s 3D printed in high finish matte PLA.
